Su is
a historical re-enactor with over 10 years of experience
spanning everything from improvisational theater and dance
to historical interpretation and demonstrations.
Su’s primary interpretations are that of a spinster and cook
and/or tavern keeper and that interpretation will vary
slightly depending upon the period (American Revolutionary
War (1770s) or Jacksonian Era (1830s)).

As a spinster Su uses a rather odd wheel, the Double Flyer,
which she can historically trace as far back as the 1770s.
This wheel’s different design is rarity and seems to cause
quite a stir when seen in camp. The double flyer wheel saw
its heyday in the early to mid 1800s but then fell out of
use with the advent of the Spinning Jenny at the dawn of the
industrial revolution. |

Su also serves as a historical cook and tavern keep, working
over either an open fire or hearth, cooking period correct
dishes in her treasured cast iron cookware. A fine stew,
roast or bird will oft times be sitting in the great pot as
she then prepares a special desert such as a pie, cobbler or
fruit compote. Though she cannot share her dishes with the
public, she is only too happy to share a recipe or two, and
smells are free to all in camp. |
